Do you have worn-out, energy inefficient, unattractive windows and doors?

Are they eating you up with maintenance, or even rotting out or falling apart?

Do you just want an updated, attractive appearance, and at the same time enjoy added comfort, lower fuel bills, and less maintenance?

THERE MIGHT NOT BE A BETTER TIME THAN NOW TO ACT!!

Today there’s even more reason to improve your home’s energy efficiency with windows and doors, and solve the other issues you may have at the same time. As part of the recent stimulus legislation (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) residential and federal tax credits are now available through the 25c – Non-Business Energy Property Tax Credit when you purchase qualifying windows and doors. While this tax credit is an extension of a 2007 program that required ENERGY STAR as the minimum performance, the requirements for qualifying products for 2009 have changed. For related tax advice, please consult your tax advisor.

Eligibility, the windows and doors must have a u-value and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) equal to or less than .30 to qualify. AAA Windows and Doors will fit the appropriate window brand, with qualifying glazing and frame systems so that you can take advantage of this program. The products must be used to improve an existing home. This tax credit does not apply to new homes. The windows and doors must be “placed in service” between January 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010. “Placed in service” is defined as when the property is ready and available for use. The structure must be the taxpayer’s primary residence.

The label identifies high-efficiency products that currently qualify for the Energy Star, but will not meet the more stringent requirements that go into full effect April1, 2010

Credit Amounts:

Receive a tax credit for 30% of the cost of qualifying products, excluding installation, up to $1,500. Qualified Until March 31, 2010

Advisory : New Year , New Numbers

For more Information please visit: www.energystar.gov

Claiming the Tax Credit:

Step 1: Purchase qualifying windows and/or doors.

Step 2: Retain the receipts that show the cost of the qualifying products (without installation charges) and save each NFRC and/or Energy Star label on each window or door. Keep these with your tax materials.

Step 3: Keep the manufacturers certification statement with your tax records.

Step 4: Submit the claim with your taxes for the year the windows and/or doors were installed.

Step 5: Always consult your tax advisor.

Please see us to determine the very best solution, for your home, at AAA Windows and Doors

Installing for Efficiency

Proper Installation is the most important step for window/door replacement project.

There are more than a few factors that I use in determining whether or not a window needs to be replaced. First and primary, is your window leaking air and water? Place your hand on the inside of the window does it feel cold or do you feel cold air coming through the sides? Check and make sure that your window is properly sealed. You could solve cold air flow through your window by simply ensuring that your window is properly insulated. If require, remove the inside trim around the window to take a detailed look.

Ensure that the outside of your window is properly sealed. In older homes, you will find that the caulk around the outside of the window is old and cracked and thus makes it possible for cold air to pass through. If this is the issue, simply remove the old caulk and replace it with a rubber silicone caulk. This is the best caulk to use as it provides the ability to expand and contract in extreme weather conditions. It will stand the test of time.

Finally, take a look at your window. When you open it, is the sash rotten, paint cracking or flaking away? This is common in older windows or homes that have not had their windows replaced since the house was built. Prior to 1980′s wood windows were common and generally, if your are finding that your windows are allowing cold air to pass and they have wood frames, chances are, they need to be replaced. Vinyl replacement windows is the most cost efficient replacement.

It’s no secret that one of the most effective ways to increase the resale value of your home is to have thermally efficient double pane vinyl windows.

The large demand for replacement windows has meant a boost in businesses, but more window company’s means it’s harder to ensure; you choose the right company.

Tips

Make decision based on facts, not on what salesperson says.

Sales consultant working with a good company will provide the customer with the knowledge they need to make an educated decision about their windows.

You get what you pay for. If a bid seems too good to be true, it probably is.

It is better to go with a company that sells and installs the windows than with a subcontractor. That way there is one company to call if something goes wrong.

Do background research on the company. Verify the company; s license, warranties, insurance and check to see if they are registered with Better Business Bureau.

One of the best ways to find a quality window company is by word of mouth.

Trust your family, friends, and neighbors who have had good experiences.

Good Luck!
Thank you for reading!!
